Typhoon!
Hi! Been a sec! Quick update from the past 3 weeks…
-We had 7 friends come to church last week!
-Jay and Denielle got baptized last Saturday and it was such a good day!
-AND A TYPHOON! I have never seen so much rain in my life. On Wednesday, it was pouring all day. Every time we came home for meals I had to change my clothes because I was drenched. It kept raining all night long and the worst of it was on Thursday. We went out Thursday morning and it was so fun I was enjoying that storm way too much haha. At one point a car drove super fast by us and it sprayed us with water and literally drenched us. It was so funny. The weather kept getting worse so unfortunately we had to go back inside and stay in for the rest of the day.
A few streets away from us, where some members live, was the worst of the Typhoon. The water went to the second floor of their house and they had no way of getting out. Very scary. But luckily the rain finally stopped and the water went low enough for them to evacuate to our chapel around 2 am.
So for the past few days we have been doing so much service and helping clean from all the flooding! It is so fulfilling and feels so good to help. I learned how to wash laundry by hand, we swept lots of water out of people's homes, and cleaned lots and lots of mud.
We helped a nanay (old woman) sweep all the water out of her house and she was so cute! She kept saying “thank you so big!”
We were so exhausted from all the service all week and then to top it all off, on Saturday we got a text from our Bishop asking if we could speak in church the next day. And THEN I woke up sick too. But God is so good and 100% helped me with my talk and carried me through. I was able to prepare my talk Saturday night and I accomplished my goal to give the whole thing in Tagalog! There is absolutely no way I could have accomplished that on my own, especially with how exhausted we were from the week before.
This week I've been studying humility. Humility is the “acknowledgement of your constant need for God's help.” I’ve been trying this week to be more aware of how much I rely on God each day and to notice his hand in my life. And it has definitely made me realize how incapable I am on my own, but how capable I am with God! Having to give a talk yesterday was such a good example to me of this. I had to humble myself enough to be able to rely fully on God to help me give this talk. I know that there is no way I would be able to speak in full Tagalog for those 10 minutes on my own. I was able to share everything I needed to, and the words I needed came to my mouth as I spoke. God is so real and I know he knows each of us perfectly. He wants to help us, all we have to do is admit that we need his help and turn to Him!
Mahal ko kayo!
