Kumusta?
Haven't written an email in a sec because I really haven't had much to write about but… this week we put 2 of our friends on date for baptism!
This transfer I have really come to understand the importance of obedience!
When I first got to this area 4 weeks ago, my comp told me this was a “dead area.” Because it had been a long time since someone had been baptized, no one was on date for baptism, and no one was receptive.
I don't believe there's such thing as a "dead area". Every area has people ready and prepared for the gospel, but I think God waits for his missionaries to work hard and be obedient before helping us find the elect. And I KNOW that obedience brings miracles! Me and my companion have been working on being exactly obedient this transfer. Its taken some work, especially to help my companion understand the importance of obedience. But after a long time of this being a “dead area”, we have 2 friends with a baptismal date and we are so excited for them!
Our first friend, John, is a 59 year old man that I think might be autistic. He has no kids, never been married and it's just him and his mom in the house. Usually when we teach him we can't quite tell if he understands our lessons or not. But he always comes to church and reads the Book of Mormon. Last time we went to his house his mom told us that he is all alone and has nothing to do, so he just reads his Book of Mormon all day. We taught him about baptism last week and he actually understood the whole lesson! We invited him to be baptized and his answer was “I'll do whatever you tell me to do.” Haha hes so funny but we are so excited for him.
Our second friend is Elen! She is the cutest old lady and also loves reading the Book of Mormon. We invited her to be baptized a couple of weeks ago and she told us she wants to pray and think about it more before commiting. Last night when we were teaching her, we asked her if she had thought more about baptism. We asked her if she thinks she could be ready by December or January and she said she will be ready by October! We were so shocked and not expecting her to say she was ready that soon!
Earlier this week I also went on exchanges with Sister Smith who is from Utah and we had the best time. We were like celebrities because no one ever sees 2 white girls walking around. All the little girls would come up to us and ask to take a picture with us. We gave one of them a card with our number on it and she ran away squealing with her friends haha. It was crazy we were getting so much attention I literally felt like a celebrity.
